Reclaiming & Embodying Emancipatory Play

SPIRIT / PLAY Symposium is an experimental arts event that seeks to answer the question– “What is emancipatory play?” We will explore themes of embodiment, spirituality, ritual, play, community-rooted practice, and restorative justice.
The event will feature workshops and talks by artist-scholars Jonaya Kemper (Emancipatory Bleed), Alison C. Rollins (University of Wisconsin Madison), and Dr. Irvin Gonzalez (Ohio State University) and Patricia “Patty” Huerta (UC Riverside) from Primera Generación Dance Collective, and conversations with UC Santa Cruz Assistant Professors mattie brice, Marina Magalhães, and Lisa Marie Rollins.
